The greatest culture shock my family suffered on moving to the New York City area this summer was learning that the city doesn't have a single country-music radio station. Not one.

We discovered this in the car, with my daughters frantically pushing buttons in a futile effort to catch a strain of Kenny Chesney celebrating his farmer's tan, or Lee Ann Womack hating herself in the morning for what she had done the night before. But they found nothing. America's greatest city, it turns out, doesn't listen to America's music -- at least over the public airwaves.

Forget about abortion, guns or church attendance. This is the real cultural divide in America. And New York -- along with San Francisco, the only other major city suffering the same deprivation -- is on the losing side...
