Paul Harvey will be the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award.
President George W. Bush will honor him, along with 13 other recipients, at a White House ceremony tomorrow.
In announcing the selection, the White House said, “Paul Harvey is one of America’s most respected radio personalities and has set a standard of excellence for broadcasters. Since his radio broadcasts first aired nationally in 1951, Mr. Harvey has won the trust of millions of radio listeners.” “Paul Harvey is an American icon and a true national treasure,” said Jim Robinson, president of ABC Radio Networks. “His work in radio has kept a generation of Americans informed and engaged every day. We congratulate him on being honored with this tremendous distinction.”
Harvey was 87 on September 4.
