Tom Jackson has had a hand in making some of today's hottest country and contemporary Christian artists make their live show a truly memorable and life-changing experience. If you ever get a chance to hear him speak or attend one of his seminars, I promise that he will inspire you.
Here's the core of his message, and though it's primarily for musicians and singers, I know you'd benefit from his motivational approach as well:
Understand "The audience' , the 3 reasons why people go to a concert, event, show , service etc (turn on your radio station)....
1. Does this capture and engage people?
2. Are we creating "Moments" (experiences) or just playing music?
3. Are lives affected or changed?
A great show always meets or exceeds the audience's expectations. A great show is a combination of Spontaneity and form.
It can only succeed consistently with lots of preparation and rehearsal. Agents and labels often talk about 'artist development,' but are really only talking about changing costumes or getting 'better songs.' There is no short cut to real development as an artist. True development as an artist means working hard in preparation and practice of all aspects of the form, before the performance to improve how well you do what you do.
Spontaneous magical moments occur more consistently - not just at random - when you achieve this.
