SCHOOL KIDS IN CHARLOTTE HAVE BANDED TOGETHER TO HELP SAVE THEIR TOWN'S HISTORY.
PARADE magazine notes that the students at Hornets Nest Elementary School in Charlotte have partnered with the organization "Historic Charlotte" to send their students to study the Davidson family cemetery, the final resting place of some of the city's founders.
It's just one of the projects supported by The History Channel's "Save OurHistory" initiative, which gives grants and awards to schools and groups that combine community preservation and education. According to the chief historian for the TV network: "Local history can provide roots for kids and help them appreciate their environment."
