KMOX, St. Louis, GM Dave Ervin says that the station is going to "Celebrate St. Louis" on Cards opening day: KMOX is throwing a parade to celebrate St. Louis and to thank "everyone who has been so supportive of KMOX over the years," Ervin said in an e-mail Wednesday.
The parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 2 - same day as the Cardinals' final regular season game at Busch Stadium. The event will feature 75 units, ranging from the Cardinals to the Waterloo German Band, and with such unique participants as the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile and the Valley Park Redneck Rookies. Star-spangled participants scheduled to be involved include Hall-of-Famer Lou Brock; rap star Murphy Lee; Joe Mokwa and Jerry Lee, St. Louis and St. Louis County police chiefs; Sherman George, St. Louis Fire Department chief; County Executive Charlie A. Dooley, and Mayor Francis Slay.
Post-Dispatch columnist Deb Peterson reports the parade will take off from Union Station and travel down Market Street to Kiener Plaza, where viewers and participants will be encouraged to party until game time at 1:15 p.m.
Talk about the end of an era. 2005 will be KMOX's final year as the Cards' flagship station since the Busch-owned team purchased KTRS last year. Play by play moves starting in Spring 2006.
